Women's soccer defeats UW-Superior

Superior, Wis. - The women’s soccer team pulled off a dominate performance against UW-Superior in the second game of the season. The Vikings put forth a full team effort defeating the Yellowjackets 4-1 on the road with four different goal scorers, and four different players dishing out assists. Full Story


Cross country hosts first race of the season

Mankato, Minn. – The cross country season is officially under way as Bethany Lutheran hosted a race yesterday at Land of Memories Park. The Bethany Invitational was the first cross country meet hosted by the Vikings. As a team, the men finished 3rd in the 8K race, and in the women’s 6K race Bethany placed 4th.
The men’s top runner, Matthew Behmer (Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran), finished 4th with a time of 28:23, with number two runner David Blumer (Lakewood, Minn./Green Mountain) finishing 11th at 29 minutes. For the women, Breanne Perlwitz (Waldorf, Iowa/Prairie) finished 29th at 29:36, and Marta Krause 34th at 30:20. Full Story


Women's soccer home opener

Mankato, Minn. - On a sunny and beautiful Wednesday evening, the Vikings took on the Buena Vista Beavers for the season opener. The game ended in a 0-1 loss for the Vikings.

The first half was a battle back and forth with neither team able to pull away from the 0-0 score. Bethany gained control of the game putting together plenty of crosses in front of the net, but had problems connecting with the follow through. At 31:40, junior Kristin Renner (Victoria, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) took advantage of one of those opportunities, but the Beaver’s keeper was aggressive out of the net and the play ended in a collision. The Bethany Lutheran men’s soccer team finished 6-14 overall, and 5-9 in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) in 2009. This year the Vikings are slated to finish fourth in the conference, predicting a post-season tournament birth.

The Bethany Lutheran women’s soccer team finished fifth in the 2010 coaches’ poll with 26 points, just one point behind the Northland LumberJills. The Vikings will take the field this fall with great reason for optimism. Coming off an 8-11-1 season besieged by injuries to several key players, the Vikings return eight starters and their top ten scorers in 2010. Returning after a season ending injury which saw her limited to five contests, Joelle Pipal (Mankato, Minn./Mankato West) looks to rebound with a big year offensively. Helping her offensively will be First Team All-Conference forward Kristin Renner (Victoria, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) and All-Conference Honorable Mention midfielder Anna Potz (White Bear Lake, Minn./Totino-Grace). Coach Forrey joins other UMAC volleyball coaches for open online chat

St. Paul - Head Coach Sue Forrey will be discussing what fans and foes can expect this season from Vikings Volleyball during a live online chat hosted by the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC). For the first time in history the league will conduct a chat with all eight of its head volleyball coaches on Thursday, August 26 beginning at 9:45 a.m. Four coaches will each fill two half-hour sessions that will lead up to the announcement of the UMAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll results on www.umacathletics.com. Coach Forrey is slated to chat in the second session starting at 10:30 a.m. Full Story
