Team and Individual Highlights of the 1999-2000 season

    • Participation and learning: high again

    26 students competed in at least one tournament during the year. Our team members competed in 21 tournaments (tying a team record), speaking in a total of 620 rounds, more than 100 hours of competitive speaking. That's a lot of learning, and that's always what we are most proud of.

    Major Accomplishments This Year

    26 students active on the team!
    Our key accomplishment is always the number of students who gained the experience of speech preparation and competition.

    A record 19 students competed in debate!
    Bethany's tradition continues to grow in this very educational event.

    We hosted our own tournament once again!
    The "Vocal Viking" has become a standard fall tournament for many teams in the Midwest.

    We continued the PLUM parliamentary debate league.
    We hosted the third season of five tournaments, enjoying and learning a lot from our regular competitive friends from Macalester, Gustavus, St. Olaf, and Bethel.

    We had a tough and competitive NPDA National Debate Team!
    Our two debate teams competed in Omaha, doing OK against the best debaters in the nation.
